Peanut Butter and Jelly!

Team X!

BRING PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY!

Each person should pick up a 1kg (regular size) tub of Peanut Butter and a container of Jelly (actually you can just bring a small container of jelly because there is an abundance of jelly in africa). This is a great alternative for our many lunches on the go! I am asking that we bring it from home for 2 reasons - 1. PB in africa fails in comparison with our much loved kraft, skippy, jiffy, etc. and 2. its waaay over priced in africa because its a "specialty" item.

Thanks! See you sooooon!!

Ministry Outline!

Team X!

I hope and pray that everyone is doing well with preparing for the trip. Time is really flying by, eh?

So, after much preparation, we have a trip outline to share with you! You all have been patiently waiting to find out what's in store for these 2 months â€" Now, before you read on please prepare your heart to understand that for circumstantial reasons, events and plans are subject to change before and during the trip.

Outline:

  • Uganda â€" June 9th to 26th - Team X will be traveling to the township of Tororo, Uganda to partner with the Deliverance Church of Tororo. While learning to live like a true Ugandan, we will spend our time mingling with the locals and ministering to the community through house visits, teaching in schools, preaching, children's ministry, and exploring nearby villages!

  • Kenya â€" June 26th to July 8th â€" Upon arrival in Nanyuki, Kenya, we will stock up on food and supplies before heading into the bush! Get your runners on cuz we are going for a loooong walk! We will be taken to a fairly secluded village of the Masaai tribe, deep into the bush at the foot of Mount Kenya. As a team we will seek God's heart for our ministry time here. We may choose to conduct VBS for the kids, visit Bomas (Masaai homesteads), hold revival meetings â€" who knows!

  • Kenya â€" July 8th â€" July 13th â€" After our bush trek we will find a place to rest, freshen up and spend time in prayer about our next stop, Tanzania! This time will also include travel days en route to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

  • Tanzania â€" July 13th to July 28th - This will be an ATL location (Ask The Lord). We will have spent time with Jesus, asking Him what our mission might look like for this time. Our intention is to be led by the Holy Spirit, exercising a walk of Faith, fully trusting His voice to plant us where we need to be. AIM has a number of established contacts within Tanzania, and who knows God might even open a new contact through us!

  • Team Debrief â€" July 27th to29 th - This is time set aside for us to process the trip and all that God has done, and to prepare for returning back to the US.

  • July 30th - fly home from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Who's excited??? I am, that's for sure! We will go into more details of the itinerary when we are all together at training camp. Please cover this itinerary in prayer, that we would find favor and mercy with the logistics of all of this and that we will keep our ears open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in all things!

Love you guys!

See you soon!

Malisa Thompson - About me

Hey everyone!!!

I feel like I'm just typing this sooo late! I just want to say I'm sorry I haven't introduced myself yet so you haven't had the chance to get to know me!!

Wellllll,
My name's Malisa, I'm about to be a senior at Georgia Tech. I can boldly say that I have never done something more exciting than our trip this summer will be, and I am leaking with joy for the opportunity to go. One thing I can definitely tell you is that I cannot begin to describe myself. I have the lovely habit of being pinned into little stereotypes but a stereotype is the very last thing I am. My last labeling has been a hippy ;) if that tells you anything. Which.. it probably won't.

I come from a family of six, two parents, two sisters and one brother. My younger sister is two years younger than me and has the truest, only-after God heart I have yet to see. My family is of the traditional, work hard, do well American mindset and they have little room for the Lord in their lives. I've been won over, however, by the persistent love of Christ.

I cannot wait for this journey to begin. I am a pretty new Christian, (i greatly dislike that word, btw, because it is misused and abused so often. by saying it i mean i have devoted the entirety of my life to Jesus Christ and I want to glorify the Lord in all things, not that that means i'm anywhere close to good at it, but the trying bit is very important to me) only three years of acknowledging God as God are under my belt. I know a little bit about where my life is going. I'm graduating college at the end of next year and right now I believe I'm headed to seminary. There's no place I'd rather be, so I finally broke and realized that the Lord does not always call us to sacrifice, but rather always to obedience.

So I have been praying for us as a team already and please, if you want, let me know how I can be praying for you personally more specifically. I cannot wait to see what this amazing adventure will have in store for us and what amazing people you all are.

Thank you for accepting my lateness! I guess I haven't shared a whole lot of who I really am yet, but I will! Don't worry! Closed is one of the things I am most definitely not! So ask me anything and .. idk. Just know my heart is already with you.

In Christ's love,
Malisa Thompson

(in case you're wondering, ma - li (like list) - sa )
my parent's are creative :)

Travel Arrangments

Dear Africa Expedition,

I am concerned that you missed the memo about purchasing your ticket's to Georgia. None of you have filled out the travel section on your profiles. Please make sure to take care of this. If you have questions about this let me know!

Also if you have yet to purchase your international insurance, you need to do that this week. I would like to see it uploaded to your profile by Friday, May 21st. That is the day everything is due from your profile. Please remember to also fill out those medical boxes, and mark with "N/A" if you have nothing to say. Again if you have questions, just let me know!

It's darkest before the dawn...

This morning I woke up at about 5ish and looked over at my window and thought to myself... "It is soooo dark." It took my mind back to a time in my life when I dwelled there...Now most people who know me well know that I have never been a fan of the dark. I never wanted to be alone when we played Hide and Seek as kids. I had to turn on every light on my way to the kitchen to get a drink a night. I just didn't like the feeling of heaviness the darkness left on me. It was... uncomfortable. I didn't like it and it made me sick to my stomach. I wanted to run as far away as I could and it seemed like the dark cloud just kept following me!!!! I wanted out!! My heart was aching and I was screaming for help and I felt as if noone heard my cry. My heart was  bruised, beaten and I was emotionally sick. I was constanly stuck in this dark state. The one thing I was so afriad of had... consumed me. It became my attitude. My words. My thoughts. They way I appeared. I was hurt and angry (Anger- Secondary Emotion). I didn't understand what was going on I was confused and scared. I felt like a small child sitting in a corner crying and rocking back and forth in fear waiting to be rescused by her daddy... Enter stage right Daddy... Jesus... Finally! I was saved! He saw how weak I was and walked over to me and picked me up in His arms and wrapped them tightly around me and whispered to me... " Here I am,Beloved. Rest in me." Joy rushed over me! There was light all around me!!! Those things in the darkness were revealed and Christ overcame them for me!!!! It's amazing what happens when we let God just hold us. His grace is always more than enough and it's good to know that we have a daddy who we can run to and find security in His arms. I am blessed to have a God who loves me and wants me. God has revealed himself in a way that has made me fall head over heels in love with Him. I am blessed.

When I can not feel
When my wounds don't heal
Lord I humbly kneel
Hidden in You

Lord you are my life
So I don't mind to die
Just as long as I
Am hidden in You

If I could just sit with You awhile
You could just hold me
nothing can touch me
though i'm wounded
though i've died
If I could just sit with You awhile
I'de need You to hold me
Moment by moment 'till forever passes by

have you ever... :D

Have you ever won a diamond ring at a rodeo?

When I was a sophomore in high school, a rodeo came to my town. I wasn't into it, but went with a friend. During the "intermission," people had the chance to go down into the dirt and look for a metal ring wrapped in duct tape. Each ring represented something different, like a gift card or free dinner. One ring, however, represented a diamond ring. My friend and I went down and ran around like crazies looking for metal rings. I didn't find anything, while my friend found like, 10 rings. Not fair, right? Time ran out, but the metal ring that represented the diamond ring was nowhere to be found. The solution? Have a race! Everyone who didn't find a metal ring, which included me, lined up on one end of the dirt floor. I threw my clogs off, ran in my sock feet across the dirt, and WON. I never win anything, so this was a HUGE deal! I mean, come on, it was a diamond ring!

Now, I know most of you haven't won a diamond ring at a rodeo, but have you ever won something totally unexpected?

AND my picture isn't working... :( but it just shows you the ringggg!
